Things to Know Before Waxing

When you make an appointment for a body waxing service, please make sure you have a quarter inch of growth, approximately 2-4 weeks of growth by date of the appointment.  This will ensure a successfull service.  If your not sure, call ahead and schedule a "look see". 

One or two days before you apppointment, you should thoroughly exfoliate the area to be waxed (except facial areas).  The day of the appointment, you should avoid using any type of moisturizer/lotion.  Be sure not to tan 24-48 hours before and after a waxing session.

For your safety, waxing service cannot be performed on anyone who is currently (or with in the last year) using Accutane, topical Retin-A Differin, Renova, blood thinners and those who are using strong percentages of AHA's.  These agents and others similar can cause skin lifting and even scaring.

Understanding the growth cycle of hair:
Hair grows at different rates.  There are typically three stages of growth.  1. The Anagen stage is when new heir is being produced.  2. The Catagen stage is the falling out stage, when the hair shaft detaches itself from the bulb.  3. The Telogen stage is the when the hair is at its full size.  It shows above the skin's surface.  
It takes 4-13 weeks for the hair to grow from the papilla to the surface fof the skin. Waxing will only remove hair that is at least 1/4 inch long and above the surface of the skin.  Since not all hair grows at the same time, two hairs can be growing next to each other and be at different stages of growth, you may experience/feel new hair growing with in a few days of a waxing treatment.  The goal of waxing to slow down and retard the growth of hair in the areas being waxed.  With continued waxing treatments you will notice that the hair grows back slower and finer each time, some areas will seem to eventually not grow back at all. This is why it is recommended to come in on a consistant basis of every 4-6 weeks, even missing one or two sessions and shaving in between will revert back to normal conditions of hair growth.
